Energy Design is an independent engineering business providing design, consultancy, technical assurance and specialist installation services.
Our history
Energy Design Ltd was established in 2007. Following five years working on major infrastructure projects in the Middle East, the company was relaunched in Kent in 2020 with a renewed focus on specialist electrical, energy, data and infrastructure work.
What we do
Our work includes commercial electrical systems, renewable energy, power quality, marina infrastructure, data networks and independent engineering consultancy.
How we work
We combine independent advice, sound engineering and practical delivery. Solutions are developed around the client’s requirements, existing infrastructure and long-term objectives—not a predetermined product.
About Martin Johnson CEng
Martin Johnson is a Chartered Engineer with a practical background in electrical installation, alongside extensive experience in design, consultancy and technical auditing. This combination brings an understanding of how systems are installed, operated and maintained—helping turn technical requirements into workable solutions.
His advice draws on both formal engineering knowledge and hands-on experience, whether assessing existing installations, reviewing designs or investigating faults, with consideration for safety, reliability, cost and the practical realities of each project.
Energy Design is personally led by Martin, with trusted specialist partners brought in where a project requires additional expertise.
Care for our environment
“I care deeply about the environment, with a particular love for wild places and the sea. As a Channel swimmer, I have a personal connection with our coastal waters and want to help protect the places that mean so much to me.
That care shapes how we work at Energy Design: thoughtful engineering, responsible use of materials and support for UK land and habitat restoration. We do not claim to be carbon neutral, do not support carbon trading and do not participate in carbon-offset schemes. Our focus is on practical actions and direct ecological restoration.”

About Martin Johnson CEng
Martin is a Chartered Engineer with more than 25 years' experience in electrical systems, telecoms infrastructure, renewable energy and technical assurance. His experience includes leading design work for Dubai Airport's new control centre, contributing to British and European infrastructure standards, and assessing solar PV installers.
Energy Design is personally led by Martin, with trusted specialist partners brought in where a project requires additional expertise.
